To the warrior tribes of the plains, the horse was everything. Confronted with the intimidating expanse of the Great Plains, these nomadic people lived by the horse. They followed migratory buffalo herds, moved their villages to fresh hunting grounds, and traded with other tribes and whites many miles from their home range. So attached were the native American people to their war horses that they sang songs to their steeds and even carved effigies to those killed in battle.
My bond with the horse is both strong and spiritual, one of great love and awe. I believe it is a gift passed to me from my native American and Spanish ancestors. The horse allows my spirit to take flight and soar. |
